Southern Maryland Boot Scooters
Team leader Leslie Harvey recently choreographed a new dance called "Vacay." It's a high-beginner dance and goes to the song "Vacation" by Thomas Rhett.
The team will be performing the dance at several upcoming engagements, including the three Southern Maryland county fairs.
The Boot Scooters' performance at the Southern Maryland Walk to End Alzheimer's on September 17 was outstanding -- and that was before we did any dancing! We raised $5096.20 for this great cause, far exceeding our goal and coming in second place for team fund raising. Also, team leader Leslie Harvey was the top individual fund raiser of all the teams and walkers with a total of $1945.
Eleven team members, along with eight family members and friends, participated in the walk. After the walk, the Boot Scooters performed several dances as part of the event entertainment.
The Boot Scooters remain committed to this cause, and we plan to start fund raising now for our participation in the walk next year. Watch for details! If you have had a friend or family member affected by this disease, you know how important it is to help find a cure.
We are scootin' our boots to wipe out Alzheimer's!
It's all smiles after a successful video shoot!

The Boot Scooters choreographed a dance to the song "Southern Maryland Thang," written by Donovan Farrell and featuring John Lusky, Lindz Owen, Donald Quade, and Wes Ryce. The song is a tribute to the hard-working men and women of Southern Maryland.
Donovan Farrell arranged for a videotaping of the team performing the dance and of team leader Leslie Harvey teaching the steps of the dance. The video is available on YouTube, and a step sheet for the dance is available on Kickit.
An article about the Boot Scooters creating the dance and participating in the video appeared in The Calvert Gazette (see page 6).
